Val d’Isère opens its summer festivities a week-end before the Bastille day celebration on the 14 th of July, with the challenging and unique Vertical Kilometer race on the Bellavarde Face.
Rescheduled 3 years ago this individual time trial race hosts the best runners in the world and the “amateurs” who want to challenge themselves. Runners start every 30 seconds and follow their own path up to the arrival at 2827 meters high where they’ll get some food and refreshment. Val d’Isère Vertical kilometer is open to hikers a couple of hours prior to the race departure. No timing for them simply the pleasure to climb the mythical Face of Bellavarde that hosts in winter “le critérium de la première neige” and the most prestigious ski racers of the Ski Worl Cup. The endurance races will be next on the schedule with long kilometers and extreme vertical falls. The day after the long distance races will take place followed by the “Balcons de Val d’Isère” the latest race. Vertical Kilometer will take place on Friday the 5th of July at 4 PM
